I got an email from Jen who is downsizing her home office. She works from home in a small home office but is going to now give it up so her daughters can each have their own bedroom. (What a nice Mom, wouldn’t you agree?) She’s going to be moving her office into her bedroom, and will be buying new bedroom and office furniture. She loves Pottery Barn but is looking for more affordable alternatives.
Do you have any ideas on furniture sources for Jen? I suggested J.C. Penny --- they have some Pottery Barn style furniture and www.computerdesks.com has some nifty computer armoires. And then there’s always IKEA – which isn’t exactly Pottery Barn but boy it sure can stretch your decorating dollar. Know what I mean?
I haven’t been out shopping for bedroom furniture lately (heaven knows I need to, but that’s a whole different story.) So I thought I’d see if you have any ideas for Jen.
Thanks for your help! Can’t wait to see what resources you can introduce to Jen (and me!)
Target, Walmart and Kmart are all carrying Pottery Barn style furniture for a much more reasonable price. And made of all the same material. Hope she finds something she likes.

Target.com has some AWESOME stuff that looks just like PB stuff. It's cheaper of course (though, not as cheap as IKEA).
Also--Stacksandstacks.com has lots of good organizing stuff for decent prices.
Containerstore is another good source!
Good luck to her!

For office furniture, definately check out OFfice Depot. I got a great desk there from Sauder.

We have a place here called American Furniture Warehouse that always has Pottery Barn knockoffs. I know they are a Colorado company, but there are similar stores in other states. And Ballard Design catalog has some smaller pieces, still a little pricey, but usually not as much as Pottery Barn but with the same look. There are also a few Pottery Barn outlets that she could call and ask if they have some office furniture that has been discontinued. If she calls the catalog, they can give her the phone numbers for the outlet stores. I got a two file cabinets from the outlets a few years ago, and they were about 1/3 the price that they originally were in the store! And of course the other girls already mentioned Target. There's always something there! At least there must be because my credit card bill is full of charges from Target every month!

Kmart has a wonderful Martha Stewart line. We purchased a unit for our bathroom and I was amazed at the quality of the piece. We have put many pieces of furniture together from Walmart & Target, and this (BY FAR) was the best quality put-it-together-yourself furniture I have ever seen.

Fry's marketplace in AZ has the exact Pottery Barn L-shaped desk for less than $250. It only comes in two kinds of brown, but I got it and painted it white. It's an exact match and everyone thinks I spent a fortune at Potter Barn! Wink, Wink!

I have to add my vote for Target. They are doing a lot of the Pottery Barn look. If she likes black at all I seem to recall that they have a line of black bedroom furniture and black desks as well.

I like the Pottery Barn bedding, yet I do not want to pay the high prices. Can you tell me where I can find bedding that looks like Pottery Barns' and not pay the high cost......

I would look around at places like Linens 'N Things or try Marshalls, T.J. Maxx, or Homegoods. They might have something that you like equally as well. Good luck! -- Aby
